Laughter makes every situation a little easier to swallow. It creates complicity between you and the people you are addressing. A moment of shared laughter immediately relaxes our bodies, relieves our fears, and silently, subtly, says to the other people in the room, “I’m with you”.

In the workplace it is often easy to forget the benefits that humour can bring. In our haste to be taken seriously (and fearing we may come over as crass or silly) we often prefer to adopt a mask of seriousness. At work, we may wear this mask to demonstrate our competence, leaving laughter as something for the weekend, to be enjoyed at home, or with friends.

But, if laughter creates a communal experience and bonds people together, if it helps the day go by and makes our daily work schedule more enjoyable, why aren’t we doing more of it in the workplace? Are we really going to let fear and panic stand in the way of a fulfilling working life?

In person, or over Zoom, I will help you to tease out your funny bones. Together, we will understand what you find funny and explore ways you can use humour as a strategy in your workplace. We will discover what is appropriate, what should be avoided, and how you can both create, and be part of, a humour-led environment. In a safe and easy-going session we will test and practise with no fear of recrimination. What have you got to lose?

As well as my work in improvisation and clowning, I have also spent the last ten years working as a “Giggle Doctor” for Theodora Children’s Charity, visiting children in UK hospitals, creating laughter and play in the most challenging of circumstances.
